NO-no YES-yes Ikebana

Ikebana is not only what you think it is but a way to familiarize yourself with the wilderness around your neighborhood. We will start each session with a small talk on alternative histories and contemporary practices in both flower arranging and still life. We will then split up for a walk around the block collecting leaves, seed pods and other materials. Return to the studio where we will cull our collection. Arrange, compose, build. Listen to a little lecture on Italian Renaissance and Japanese drawing techniques. Study, draw and paint our collections and arrangements with an eye for organic form, syntax, growth and decay.

Helen Singh-Miller, an artist with a long practice of gardening, drawing and painting from life, will lead the class.

$400 for the series (includes art materials)
